SHORT RESUME
A territory of multiple influences, before Portugal was a Nation, we were having here diverse people, mainly the Phoenicians, Greeks, Celts, Visigoths, Romans, Arabs and others.
In 1143 Portugal was born, which in the following centuries consolidated its borders and independence.
In 1415, Portuguese troops under the command of King D. João I of Portugal arrived in Ceuta, in North Africa, beginning the great sea voyages of the Portuguese around the world. This happening is generally referred as the beginning of the Portuguese World discoveries.
A few curiosities:
The Algarve chimneys and whitewashed houses, so typical of the south of Portugal, have a strong Arab influence.
Famous Writer: Albert Camus was an Algerian born French author. In 1957 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature
